First, remove any dead or dying plants found in your garden during winter. Next, take out any dead or dying plants and rake them up. Perennial plants break their dormancy in spring and early summer. They will need to be kept alive until June for them to show signs of life. In addition, weed the thawed soil. If necessary, rototill the soil to break up clumps and improve drainage.

Once you've completed your planning, it is possible to buy planter boxes and planting trays for your garden. Make sure to use peat-free compost for planting your seeds. To grow, the tubers will require additional compost. You might save time and money by buying new gardening gloves to protect your fingers. If you have difficulty planning, you may be able to hire a lawn-care service. They will be happy and able to clean up your yard.

As the winter months end, the hardscaping in your garden may take a toll on your soil. To improve the soil's health, you can use compost, hay, or wood ash. By preparing your soil in the spring, you will be able to reap the benefits of these treatments and see your garden blossom in full bloom before summer. This is the perfect time to facelift your garden architecture, and it can be done even faster during the drier months.

How To

Organic fertilizers for your garden

Organic fertilizers include manure (compost), fish emulsions, seaweed extracts, blood meal, and compost. The term "organic" means that they are produced using non-synthetic material. Synthetic fertilizers include chemicals used in industrial processes. Because they are quick and efficient, synthetic fertilizers are popular in agriculture. They don't require laborious preparation. However, synthetic fertilizers pose risks to human health and the environment. In addition, they require large amounts of energy and water to produce. Runoff from synthetic fertilizers can also pollute groundwater and surface water. This pollution is harmful to wildlife and humans.

There are many types of organic fertilizers.

* Manure - is made when livestock eat nitrogen (a plant food nutrient). It contains bacteria and enzymes that break down the waste into simple compounds that plants can absorb easily.

* Compost - a mixture of decaying leaves, grass clippings, vegetable scraps, and animal manure. It is rich with nitrogen, phosphorus. potassium, calcium. magnesium. sulfur. iron. copper. manganese. molybdenum. chlorine. and carbon. It is highly porous so it can retain moisture well and release nutrients slowly.

* Fish Emulsion - a liquid product derived from fish oil. It can dissolve oils and fats, similar to soap. It contains phosphorous, nitrogen, and trace elements.

* Seaweed Extract is a concentrated solution that contains minerals extracted from red algae, brown algae and green algae. It's a great source of vitamins A and C as well as iodine and iron.

* Guano is excrement from amphibians, seabirds, bats and reptiles. It contains nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfate, chloride, and carbon.

* Blood Meal, the remains from slaughtered animals. It is high in protein, making it suitable for feeding poultry and other livestock. It also contains trace minerals like phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen.

Make organic fertilizer by combining equal parts manure, fish emulsion, and compost. Mix well. If you don’t own all three ingredients, one can be substituted for the other. For example, you could mix 1 part of the fishemulsion with 2 parts of compost if only you have access to fish emulsion.

Apply the fertilizer by spreading it evenly using a tiller or shovel. About a quarter of a cup of the fertilizer is needed per square foot. To see new growth, you will need to apply more fertilizer every 2 weeks.
